We toured Sedgwick Heights for my mother-in-law. They have an enhanced assisted living, and we thought that was an advantage. We liked the friendliness of the people. The rooms were a nice size. It's an older facility, but it's well maintained. Things are clean, neat, and so forth. We liked it because it has the enhanced assisted living, which will give her some more support if she needs it. The staff was patient and answered all our questions. They have a recreation program and a little store, and that's about it. A lot of that was on hold because of COVID. This is suppose to be an assisted living facility, my family member had no housekeeping for the year they were kept in there rooms because of covid, the room had rodent feces and urine, along with urine soaked roll of paper towels that was all chewed up. The room had not been dusted for the whole time. No help was given for putting clothing away, therefore the same clothing was wore day after day. The meals were terrible, usually cold or didn't received them. They blamed everything on Dementia. I was unable to go to her room due to Covid. The meals were terrible, usually cold or didn't received them. They blamed everything on Dementia. I was unable to go to her room due to Covid. I never would have someone living in the filth , where they had to eat and sleep and breathe that toxic enviroment. I witnessed residents getting yelled at, that brought residents to tears. Found nurse in the room alone sitting on the bed talking on her cell phone, as i entered she got up and immediately left the room, leaving her keys on the bed, i returned the keys to charge nurse. Scarey thought if a resident got the keys, endangering residents. I hope my actions help to change the standards for the residents who remain there and the future.

My aunt and mom are safe. That means everything.

Sedgwick Heights has a lot of Medicaid people. There are 150 residents there and I don't think they're getting the proper care that they should be because there are so many people there. The rooms are semi-private. They have two people to a room and you have to get along with your roommate. The nurses have forgotten to come down to give my mom a shower a couple of times. The food is brought in and it is not very good at all. They have activities every week like Bingo, manicures, and trivia, but they don't get out and get a lot of the residents to come down and join in. They have a few people that come down and do the activities, and they don't worry about the other ones. They need better food, and they need more nurses on duty to make sure that the residents are getting what they're supposed to be getting, like showers twice a week, and things like that.

Halls smell of urine. Food for residents unappetizing, bed bugs, no interaction with participants, doors unlocked to rooms of residents..anyone can enter and cause harm to residents. Filthy bathrooms, staff, esp. Supervisors show little to no care for residents. Thank God I removed my Mom stat, else she would NOT BE ALIVE TODAY. Shelia Harris

I can completely understand how challenging it is to cover all of the varying needs of the residents. Both of my folks needed to have assisted living at about the same time. Truthfully, they had prepared to stay in their home and live out their lives in the comfort of their home. They have been married since 1950 and known each other since 1939. So, they wanted to be together. The Loretto system allowed for them to be reunited and live together once again. It is an organization that is not focused on letting people come in and then asking them to go when their assets can no longer cover the expenses. The fact that they are together and they will not be asked to leave trumps some of the challenges that I know most senior care facilities face. I give it five stars because my folks were hard working and giving people. They are now able to be together. It is not perfect. In the three months I have been going to visit I have noticed steps to help brighten the appearance and also maintain the facility. When you walk in to the facility you are greeted and there are a number of people who are on the staff who want to help enrich the lives of those living there. We, as family, need to keep an eye on what is happening and be advocates when we see something that is not right in our eyes. Thank you for allowing our parents to be together.

Sedgwick is a special place. Many staff members have worked at Sedgwick for years and are compassionate & hard working care-givers. The Residents are the heart of the building. There is a very active Residents Council. They are always planning new things and strive to make Sedgwick a home away from home.
