The Hearth on James

Our loved one who is a resident at The Hearth on James likes it and based on the experience so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

I like The Hearth on James. I like their menu. They have a lot of different choices as far as food. I looked at the food; it looked pretty good. Everybody looked happy. I got to talk to some of the residents there, and they all seemed to like it. It was just nice. They have wide hallways and nice rooms. The apartments had little kitchenettes with little stoves, and they were nice, too. The staff who took me was great. He was very nice, very knowledgeable, and accommodating. The only problem that I have with the building is the location. It's in the middle of a bad part of town. The building itself is beautiful. It's well-kept. I can't say anything bad about the place except for the neighborhood.

I enthusiastically recommend The Hearth on James! When I first walked in the door for my tour, I was greeted by [name removed] at the desk, Christmas Carol's and engaged residents in the parlor for morning exercises. I felt welcome immediately! I knew the smaller setting and friendly, active residents and staff, offered the very sense of community that my uncle would enjoy. This would be his new home after leaving NJ to be closer to our family in Central NY. Since he moved in, he has had great care, met other residents and joined in the activities. Staff has been helpful getting him involved and meeting others. The nursing staff has contacted me a couple of times with concerns that we were able to solve together...communication both ways is terrific. My uncle loves the food and I don't have to worry that he's not eating balanced and with good nutrition.

I like that The Hearth on James is a very small community. There are only 50 residents. I like that there's a lot of activity. I like that they provide housekeeping once a week in their apartments and they provide transportation three days a week to medical appointments. I like that you can have overnight guests there for up to three days. So, if my sister is going to move there and her grandsons want to stay with her, they could, which is very nice. I like that all the meals are prepared and it's served restaurant style. When you go down, you sit at a table and they come and they bring your food. There are three meals a day, seven days a week, and there's food there where she can go and get herself if she wants to in between. I like that the staff there were friendly with all the residents in the hall. They knew their names and they knew what they liked. I like that there's nursing care available. If my sister had any sort of an accident, I like that they have pull cords in their apartments in every room. I like that in the apartment, the bathroom is off of the bedroom instead of off of the living room or kitchen. I like that she can have her dog there. I liked everything about it. It was wonderful. They have bingo, outings, cards, and a lot of things for them to do. It was very pristine.

My mom is at The Hearth on James. It's a wonderful place. The people there are very nice and they're trying very hard to keep her going. They are doing a good job. They are very pleasant and very friendly. They have coffee and water right out there for everybody. It seems to accommodate what we need. They decorate for all the seasons. They have outings and they play some kind of bingo thing. They have a wonderful hairdresser. When I went there one time, they had a woman outside in the patio area who was playing a musical instrument and singing. One other time, a man was playing the piano.
