My feelings for this facility go up and down. A lot of times the communication to the medical nurses doesn’t get relayed and they don’t get the medication’s. They’re supposed to get when they’re supposed to get them, their communication is really bad they’re Severely understaffed like all places and try to make the best of it there’s a few people I can rely on Jill Ursula Ben The doctor if I go see him myself, and Rick, but it’s hard because the staff changes a lot but there’s a few that make it worth being there. My mom does get a lot of stuff stolen I believe, unfortunately. There should be…

Ongoing concerns about quality of care and communication: My grandfather was a resident at The Grand Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center of Batavia, and our family experienced ongoing issues that raise serious concerns about the quality and safety of care provided. Ongoing concerns about quality of care and communication: My grandfather was a resident at The Grand Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center of Batavia, and our family experienced ongoing issues that raise serious concerns about the quality and safety of care provided. During his stay, there were repeated issues with feeding and hydration not being provided as scheduled despite physician orders. Family members frequently had to call to ensure feeds were started. His feeding pump also malfunctioned multiple times without consistent monitoring. He was eventually hospitalized with severe dehydration, aspiration pneumonia, and sepsis, and the hospital physician questioned whether he had been receiving adequate nutrition and fluids while at the facility. Communication from the facility was very limited. There were multiple situations in which we believe a phone call to family would have been appropriate, but no call was made. After his hospitalization, administration stated that staff had observed him gagging himself with a mouth sponge. These observations had never been reported to us previously, and their timing raised concerns for our family about transparency and documentation. Responsiveness from staff was inconsistent. Calls to the nurse line or supervisors often went unanswered or were routed to voicemail. There were incidents where his call bell was out of reach, which caused him distress. Symptoms such as vomiting and pain were not always clearly documented or communicated. Basic care needs were not consistently met. His room was not regularly cleaned while he was ill, requiring family to clean it themselves. He was often placed in briefs instead of being assisted to the commode, which physical therapy indicated interfered with his rehabilitation. There were also instances of unprofessional communication by some staff, including a nurse stating, “I am not your nursemaid,” and refusing to assist him, and another staff member stating that family visits would be stopped if he continued to use his call button. I want to acknowledge that a few select staff members and their PT, OT, and Speech Therapy staff were truly wonderful. However, their support is limited to therapy sessions and specific shifts. They cannot be present at all times to ensure continuous, proper care, and once they were not present, his care frequently declined. The lack of care at this facility put my loved one’s health in further danger. No family should have to fight this hard for basic, mandated care. I strongly advise anyone considering this facility to look elsewhere.
Overall, I had an amazing experience when I arrived at The Grand for my rehabilitation. Starting from my social worker, Angele to the wonderful nurses and nursing aids. My physical therapy team was by far the most patient, caring, supportive, gentle and encouraging team. I would like to give a special thanks to Ben and Abby, my physical therapists Who worked so diligently with me to get me back on my feet. Thank you to the entire staff who made me feel at home and comfortable each day that I was there, I will forever be grateful.
So far I've enjoyed the food, and the staff have been very nice. Would recommend.
The Grand is a rehab place and nursing home that does an amazing job with too few resources. (Health care in the US is in a bad state.) I recently had a family member in the Grand for two months' rehab. The people are wonderful: OT, PT, Nurses, aides, and all the staff are generally kind and thoughtful, respectful and want to help you help your loved ones.
Both my in laws are at The Grand Rehabilitation & Nursing at Batavia. I am very happy and very pleased with how both of my in laws are doing. The Staff is very caring and always working hard to meet our goals of keeping both of them safe and mobile. When questions arise the staff from social workers to the CNA, are always willing to help to answer them. We have found and we have seen that the staff is very caring. Yes the building is old and looks run down, but we are very happy.
I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve called this dump asking for my father’s belongings. The only bag they gave us contained underwear, socks and shorts! Where are his other cloths? Where is his DVD player? Where are his DVDs? I’m tired of these people. You didn’t rehabilitate him like you were supposed too, you let his blood sugar get out of control which resulted in him being taken to the hospital. You’re also are the reason he contracted COVID.
This place is a dump that is forgotten about, and so are the residents. They are severely understaffed. Everything they put on their website is a lie/scam. There is no chef preparing chef quality food, there is no hotel experience, residents are put into double bedded rooms, with hospital beds, they ignore residents calling for help, they don’t check on residents, nor help them get dressed. It had an odor of urine and staleness in the air. The only place to put photos of family is an 8x10 cork board. This place needs the state involved, investigated, and/or shutdown. If you put your family there, you might as well say your goodbyes. This place will kill whatever spirit your family member has left. Also the potholes in the parking lot, gutters hanging. This place is the worst!! You leave feeling like taking a shower in sanitizer!!
