I have been at Peregrine Shaker for 2 1/2 years and intend to stay here. I visited 3 other facilities before selecting Peregrine. The administrators, department heads, wellness staff, caregivers and maintenance staff are top notch. They are always available. Our reasonable requests are fulfilled as soon as possible and others are eventually satisfied. There are so many different activities available to us both in house or outside. Taxi service is available for medical and other appointments. The interior and exterior are very clean and maintained in a timely manner.
I can unequivocally recommend Peregrine Shaker. My mother was in the memory care unit and every one in my family felt that she got excellent care. I visited her dozens and dozens of times and without exception the staff was always kind, compassionate and professional. Everyone from my 9 year old son to my 80 something aunt visited and we all feel the same. Thank you Peregrine Shaker.
Horrible place. Mistreat patients, lie to keep patients in their “care” and provoke and mistreat them. They are deceitful and ended up costing 30,000$ for 1 month. A horrific place and shameful if you think you are leaving your loved ones in a caring home and end up seeing how they treat them. Karma will take care of them.
I moved my mom to Peregrine Shaker late last year -- and the entire search for the right place, the move, the concerns about adjusting.. were so stressful on both of us - but it was absolutely 100% the right decision. A lot of the staff have been there for years (which makes a difference to me, her last home had a really high staff turnover) - and they are all lovely and caring and helpful. Logistically it's great for us as it's so close to St. Peter's medical facilities. They have a visiting PCP whom my mom loves. Since she's been there... I feel like she's gotten healthier - because *stress levels have dropped*. She has fun with the daily activities, she feels safe and supported. And... I bring my dog there all the time, very dog friendly place :) I'm truly glad we found a good home. Thank you.
Peregrine Senior Living at Shaker's memory care was in the basement, and it felt dark. And they said you go back in time, like they had it go back in time to the 1950s. They had older furniture and everything. The woman there was very informative. She seemed very on top of things, but we just didn't like the feel of the place. I liked the woman who was in charge was very nice to me. She offered her assistance even though we didn't go there, and so she was very, very kind as far as that. She was very abrupt, but she was very honest, which is not a bad thing. However, the place felt dark and dingy. It smelled urine like somebody had had an accident. It didn't feel that fresh and clean to us. The people seemed happy there. They had TV and they were singing along with something. They had an outdoor courtyard. But they've just recently gotten over Legionnaires' disease, so that didn't make us want to go there. They had improved it, and the health department was involved, but the staff didn't tell us that before we got there, and then she told us that it was all on the news. It's a problem they had that they resolved. The memory care felt like it was the depraved of the unit, not that the people there knew anything different. Everything was old, like older styles of furniture and it didn't seem as well-kept as the other place. The rooms themselves were nice, a decent size, but they seemed old.
We are very happy with the facility and my mom appears to be content. When we ask her how she's doing she never complains and says things are good. Very caring and committed staff.
I liked Peregrine Senior Living at Shaker very much. My mother didn't like it very much though. She didn't feel that she needed assisted living and then that facility discovered that it had Legionnaires bacteria in their water system. So, that kind of took care of that. I believe the facility has fixed that issue but my mother's reaction to the issue of moving into assisted living followed closely by that Legionnaires issue just didn't work out. The admissions director was very knowledgeable. She knew the residents and they were very comfortable with her. She knew the staff. She was very knowledgeable about what we would need to do to have our mother move in. So, she was a good source of information. Everything was clean, pleasant, and looking appropriately decorated for autumn. It seemed like a place where someone would like to be. It's like a hotel setting.
We had a few issues with the staff and I feel they were not dealt with to my satisfaction. The food could be a bit better at Peregrine Shaker, as I've tried it a couple of times.
