The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell

If I could give this place a -5 I would. You would not send your worst enemy to this horrible nursing home. We took my sister out of there because they would’ve killed her. They did not take care of her and they left her for hours without responding, our family ended up bringing her home.

Marisa the head nurse on the dementia floor is the most amazing angel on earth! My father received the most amazing end stage dementia care from her. She cares for her patients like they are all her own family. I live 2000 miles away and I could rest at night knowing she cared for him everyday. I will be forever grateful for her love, patience and compassion she had for my father . Thank you !!!

The grand is the worst place ever my husband has been there a few months no shower food is always cold and they took his phone away we aren't allowed to call him they are slowly killing him

I’ve been a resident for 8 years. And the ONLY positivity I can say about this place is the Activity department. Activities has consistently been great as far as planning different activities for residents and including everyone. From bingo, name that tune, karaoke, spelling bees daily coffee time and even dollar days! They have parties every month for birthdays of the month and holiday parties for every calendar holiday and even some like Mardi Gras, there are monthly lunch club and brunch summer BBQs. And the food & snacks for those parties is made by Sandy in Activities and it’s always delicious!! The director of Activities is the most kind, smart, fun loving human being I have ever met!!! She is the best! All in all activities is like a breath of fresh air!!!! I absolutely love them!!

I've been coming up here for a very long time, and made it permanent in the late 80's. I have always heard the comments and horror stories about Barnwell, and I considered myself lucky that I would never have to deal with someplace like that. Fast forward to now. Have "been in the system" now for awhile. Life has a habit of not always doing what it was supposed to. Long story short - it turns out I need some physical and occupational therapy, skilled nursing care and a stable environment. I thought about fighting it when I was in the hospital, but it probably wouldn't have done anything or made a difference. So here I am - I have been here about a month. My initial reaction when I came through the doors? "This place doesn't seem so bad..." And lo and behold - it's NOT!! Color me shocked!! 99% of the staff and administration have been wonderful - welcoming, caring, patient with my endless questions, etc. The therapy room (the gym!) is a lively space where a myriad of miracles happen! The offices have their doors open for the most part, giving off a welcoming vibe. Residents are noticably clean and happy. The receptionist is wonderful and knows everything! The administrator is very available, and just basically a wonderful human!! The activities department is definitely something to be proud of - Bridget, Janet, and the rest of the team always have something fun and timely up their sleeves! They're always doing interesting things! I truly feel Barnwell has an undeserved bad reputation - it's obvious that thought and care had been put front and center. The Grand at Barnwell was sold to new owners as if Feb 1, 2026. May they continue the current climb right to the top!
