From the moment Kenny arrived — and even prior to officially moving in, when he was visiting weekly for the thoughtfully curated 92NY programming — the teams lead by Laurie at The Bristal embraced him fully, nourishing his mind, body, and soul. The wellness staff treats him with attentiveness and humanity. The intellectual stimulation and daily programming curated by Terrence have awakened parts of him I was afraid were fading. He wakes up feeling hopeful, engaged, and purposeful. As his wife, there is no greater gift than seeing him feel gratified and emotionally alive again. The dining team prepares healthy, thoughtful meals that truly make him feel cared for. Housekeeping maintains his space beautifully while always honoring his privacy and dignity. She helped transform what could have been a heartbreaking transition into one filled with humanity, trust, and even hope. Most importantly, this is no longer “a facility.” This is home for Kenny. And for me, it has become a kind of pied-à-terre — a place where I can walk in not exhausted and overwhelmed, but present, loving, and connected to my husband again. An unexpected byproduct of spending time at The Bristal has been meeting fellow residents, their families, multiple generations of loved ones, and building lifelong relationships within this cultured, educated, and deeply welcoming residential community.
