Peregrine Senior Living at Colonie

I toured Peregrine Senior Living at Colonie. The facility itself was lovely. However, it seemed like most of the people who live there were very infirm. The people there looked like they needed a lot of help. I didn't see anything that would suit me, but it looked like it was adequate for what they were doing. The staff was very attentive and very solicitous. The rooms were adequate. The facility was not for me, but I thought it was great. Everything was up to date. They had a lovely new rug, which was nice. The dining area was very restaurant-like. It was nice and homey.

My mom moved into Peregrine Senior Living at Colonie a week ago. It has been an adjustment, but it's very clean and very open. They have a lot of activities, and they're very organized. The staff is very, very helpful. It has been a transition, but I think they've been very attentive to me. No place is perfect, but I think they're very willing to hear my concerns and are ironing out a few things. I think the lack of knowing who my mom is and the whole process is difficult for families, but I think they've made an effort. The caseworker Amy is excellent. So they've been very, very concerned with me as well as my mother. I'm not saying they're perfect, but they're very close. I think they're a good community. And the food was very good. They have activities all through the day. Regarding value for money, they put my mom at a level 2 care, which is another $1400 a month, which I didn't expect. I guess in the beginning, they probably all need a little extra care. We had a semi-private room, but it didn't work out. My mother didn't understand that she had a roommate, so they moved her very quickly into a private room they had available. So, I thought it wasn't expensive at first, but now I think it is more because they have upped their prices. But they also do a lot, it's very clean, and they update everything. It's hard to judge because I haven't been to another place, but I think you get what you pay for. You don't want to have someplace that's cheap, and then they skimp on everything. I don't think Peregrine skimps on their food, and I think it's very well decorated and it's clean. Also, any meals for the family are included, which is nice. If you give them 24-hour notice, and if you want to eat with my mom, they don't charge you extra. The TVs are also included, which is nice.

We specifically chose the memory care with nursing because my husband had both diabetes and alzheimers. It was suggested by Caring that this place might work for us. We were initially told there were vacancies. Then we waited for a few months and finally were told one was coming up and we should get a doctors exam, papers to be filled out and a room would be offered to us. MY husband was never contacted for an interview , exam in any way. On the day we were to be told which room, we were told he was not being offered one because the nursing staff couldn't manage his diabetes though they qpparently had a license so they could. I felt we were very badly handled and told many untruths.

Peregrine Colonie has exceeded my expectations. The staff are genuinely caring, competent, friendly and always on top of everything. They treat my husband (and myself) with dignity and respect. Each staff member, regardless of their position, is willing to help any resident or family member no matter the situation. I cant say enough good things about the health care aides, they are truly angels with a very difficult job that they perform with care and compassion. Kudos to the administration, operations, activities, food service and medical departments. Every time i enter the facility i am welcomed and made to feel like i am a part of this community. The facility is well maintained, very clean and the operations director and his team couldn't be more accommodating. The activities are well done and it is obvious that a lot of thought and consideration goes into each activity. The food is great (my husband loves his snacks too) and the menu is diverse. The chef solicits suggestions for menu options and provides a quality product. The staff in the medical department are alway there to help. They take great care with all the residents. Peregrine Colonie has a diverse population which includes a large number of men. The "sports room" has become a hit with my husband and other residents. I am there everyday and can say with absolute certainty that this place is great and my husband and i are very comfortable being part of this community. No one wants to be on this journey or to have to make a decision to place their love one into a facility. However, since i had to make that decision, this facility was an excellent choice for both my husband and I. I highly recommend Peregrine Colonie

My sister's and I are extremely satisfied with his level of care, the compassion and care of the staff, the attention to care details, and the level of communication are exceptional! The meals are amazing! Memory Care is double the price of assisted living. We pay separate for haircuts for a hair dresser that is on site. With the level of Dementia most residents have, I feel that hair styling, nail, ear, nose, and face grooming should be offered as part of the cost. We and he are very pleased with Peregrine Colonies.
