It feels like home. The staff is wonderful. The residents are great. The Administrator doesn't tell you what she thinks you want to hear, but she goes with the truth. She just treats you like an adult not a child in grown-up clothes. The place is clean and smells like potpourri. Once you visit you never want to leave. This is not the place if you are unruly, enjoy starting fights with other residents or behave in a socially inappropriate manner.
My Aunt & Uncle moved to Orchard Brooke during covid of 2020. The place isn't a palace, but there are people there who genuinely care! Both the employees and the residents. There's always going to be a few bad apples, but I always feel welcomed and listened to. It is obvious that the majority of the staff sincerely cares about the residents and for me, that is priceless! My Aunt, to say the least, is fussy! My Aunt has been there for 5 years now and for her to make friends easily, be positive and never complain....is a miracle!
My mom had a medical emergency 2 years ago that left her suddenly unable to take care of herself. While she was in hospitals and rehab for 3 months recovering, we extensively researched and visited dozens of facilities trying to find the best place for my mom to move into. At 64 years young she has mild-moderate dementia and a few other health issues that need tending to, but she’s still social and able to do things. Orchard Brooke has been incredible for her. Not only do they have a great care team, but their facility is large and clean with several amenities including a community kitchen…
Not only do they have a great care team, but their facility is large and clean with several amenities including a community kitchen for residents to cook in, a large outdoor area with patio seating and a gazebo, a huge front porch that’s always stocked with Koolaid and rocking chairs, a laundry room, and in-house hair salon. They also have a wonderful social program with multiple activities for residents to do every single day including live music, clubs, outings for lunch and shopping, special visitors like “therapy goats”, birthday parties, and even monthly meetings where residents can vote on things they’d like to do and what will be on the coming food menu. My mom has officially been living at Orchard Brooke for almost 18 months, and the level of care, kindness, and attentiveness has been extraordinary. Everyone from the culinary and cleaning/maintenance staff to the nurses and aides to the activities coordinators and front desk to the administration team are so friendly and mindful of each and every resident and their needs, habits, and personalities. Whenever I have a question or concern Shaton, Brittany, Kevin, Keisha, and truly anyone I need to speak to is always available and helps me with whatever I need as soon as possible. They take such good care of my mom - not only medically but emotionally too, always making her smile, laugh, spending time talking to her, answering her questions. I was so nervous about putting my mom into a long-term care facility, but Orchard Brooke has been so accommodating to my mom’s needs. And she’s happy! Seeing the way the entire staff at Orchard Brooke has treated not only my mom but all of their residents in every single capacity has quelled any nervousness I ever had and reassured me time and again that we made the right decision for my mom. We highly recommend Orchard Brooke to anyone looking for a care facility for a loved one!
I had the opportunity to tour the facility and was truly impressed! The staff were so welcoming, the building was clean and I loved the dinning room! 👍 Thank you for taking the time to meet with our family so we were able to make the right decision for mom!
My mother is in Absolut at Orchard Park. She is very low income, and they're the only ones that would accept her. She's on Medicaid, and they actually were willing to completely work with Medicaid. Getting information for when and how she moved in was a little bit difficult and with all the Covid restrictions. Everything had to be handed off to people. There were a couple of days where she was kind of without help; she wasn't set up, and it took more than 24 hours for her medication to get to her. I know that a lot of that was just the transition, but there wasn't a lot of communication with the family. My mom had to tell my sister and I, and then we had to reach out to the facility coordinator. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with Covid. The staff was incredibly responsive and once we reached out about anything, they tried to fix it. Mom wasn't happy to begin with, and she didn't understand how to navigate the food to begin with. She then figured out that if there's something she didn't like, she could ask for something else. She probably asks for something else a couple of times a week. They have activities, and I'm very impressed about it. They seem to do something every day. It's actually getting her out of her room and going down. Those are things she enjoys doing. She kind of sits in her room unless there's something really interesting. I think they do a lot to make the people get out of their room. I haven't seen the place. I have not gone physically, but my mom said it's definitely a little bit more rundown. Considering she is somebody who doesn't have much of an income, she shouldn't expect too much; pretty much Social Security paid for it. She has no income other than that.
Be careful! They will allow your loved ones to sign contracts without your knowledge!
This place was a snake pit. It absolutely needed a facelift inside at least. The closet was so old in my mothers room, it was freestanding knotty pine. Umm... I don't think they made them since the 1960's! Give me a break. How can this facility be filing for bankruptcy? They have put anything into this place cosmetically in decades! So, only one answer. They are lining their pockets obviously. I wouldn't put my worst enemy in this dump let alone a relative! I hope my sister is proud of herself for placing my mother in this pit without checking it out first!! Don't do it people!
I am at this facility on a near daily basis. I can only speak to the Absolut at Orchard Park location, as it is the only one I have been to. If you or a loved one are considering this facility, DO NOT. If you have a loved one in this facility, GET THEM OUT. When you first walk in you're greeted by somewhat friendly receptionist. You will notice that there are a couple of chairs and a coffee table tucked in the left corner. Often times there is a pot of coffee that is likely cold and some baked goods that are probably stale. That is all the positive things I have to say about this facility. The facility as a whole is in desperate need of a facelift from the inside out. There is a thick, constant smell of UTI, feces, urine, and cleaner throughout the building. The carpet lining the hallways is in desperate need of restoration or replacement. The walls need a fresh coat of paint. The ceiling tiles, which were once white, are now yellow and sagging. The patients rooms are dim and absolutely depressing and sad. The facility as a whole is disgusting and dirty. Moving on to the staff, never in my entire life have I seen such lazy "medical professionals". Truthfully, there is a handful of decent nurses and aides, however, the majority appear to be extremely lazy. The staff is often in complete disarray and look so unprofessional it is sickening and make me wonder how they are trusted to care for the most fragile population. Not a day goes by where I don't see staff members without headphones in their ears, having personal conversation among other coworkers, or playing/talking on their phones. The staff is often clueless (or plain stupid) when asked questions and just flat out lie when they don't have an answer. It is certainly clear that most of the staff working there is just there for a paycheck and has very little concern regarding the patients. All of the units at this facility are understaffed severely at all levels of care and it seems that some of the RNs are covering multiple UNITS at a time. Just a few months ago this facility had an inspection. I am not sure what inspection was completed, but I believe it was an insurance inspection/audit. During the few days the inspection was taking place, I have never seen this facility so clean, fresh smelling, properly staffed with employees that looked happy to be there. As you may have guessed the minute the inspection was over they went back to their old ways. To the administration at Absolut at OP - If someone reads this do not comment back and give me a phone number to call like you have done with everybody else. I have said everything I needed to say and have nothing further to say. To families that are considering Absolut at OP - Please don't. Please don't send your loved one here, whether it is for long term care or short term rehab, PLEASE find a different facility. To the families that have a loved one at Absolut at OP - If at all possible, get them transferred to another nursing home. If that isn't possible try to be there as much as you can, demand answers from the staff, and don't settle for their generic answers. To New York State/Erie County - If anyone is reading this, please launch an unannounced inspection on this facility. Knowledge of such inspection allows them to prepare. This facility needs a slap in the face or should be shut down.
