My wife was sent here after heart surgery. She had multiple medicines to get and it was difficult to get them straightened out with the staff here. Either the dosages were not given on time or we had to keep asking for them. The nurse practitioner who was taking care of her was very haughty and rude, and this man should not be in this job. He shouted at me In a very nasty and rude manner, “ How many times have I to tell you.? Get out of here and take your wife with you. I’m not going treat her.. Get out. He shouted at me In a very nasty and rude manner, “ How many times have I to tell you.? Get out of here and take your wife with you. I’m not going treat her.. Get out. Go get out.” I told him I wanted to talk to the medical director, his boss . He yelled” Go ahead talk to him. I’m not his son.” Prior to this, he had changed her medicine from Pyridium to prevent burning pain while urinating that we are brought in to something else , without telling us or discussing with us. When I told him that she was much worse with it, convulsing in pain every time she urinated , he prescribed another medicine Bactrim, but only for 3 or four days. What was she to do thereafter? He didn’t say. When I went back to him and told him that she still had a lot of pain, he said she could’ve asked us for Pyridium whenever she wanted! He had not mentioned this to either of us. She couldn’t ring the bell and expect to get it immediately whenever she needed it. It was to be given every eight hours. His shocking outburst and attitude in front of aides and nurses. left me with a very bad impression of this place. All that they had done meant nothing. I complained to the medical director and the administrator. The latter said he would talk to him and reassign him to a different area. There was no talk of any apology or shock on their part. The administrator said it was only my word, but he didn’t seem to be interested in asking any of the witnesses. This nurse practitioner only sat at the nurses station and never discussed medicines, new medicines given , side effects, or interactions between medicines. I had to keep going up to him to discuss. On another occasion, I told him my wife had swollen feet and he said he would look at them. He didn’t come by for hours, sitting and chatting at the nurses station. He only came by at night when he made his rounds and asked her very haughtily and arrogantly “ You were in St Francis weren’t you? Did they tell you that you have congenital heart failure?” What a withering thing to say to a recovering heart patient who just had surgery! The therapy here was good, but the food atrocious. My wife didn’t eat her meals most of the time and I had to get food in from outside. Some of the admissions people, therapists, nurses and aides were good. However, after ringing the call buttons, sometimes took up to an hour to get someone to come or give medicines, particularly at night. I am thinking of complaining about this nurse practitioner’s professional misconduct, to the New York State education department, National Health Care Associated (who own Belair), Medicare among others. Anybody looking to go here should carefully consider the fact that this nurse practitioner has a terrible attitude, and they are likely to be treated badly by him.

Belaire has been a wonderful rehab for many years in my family . Starting with Dad-3x , Mom-2x, mother-in-law-1x! The experience is always positive starting with Roseann-the director of admissions and Marie -the admission coordinator - both wonderful and friendly people . The staff - nurses - PT’s and Dr. Ege are all kind and do their job very well ! The receptionist always welcomes you as well ! I would highly recommend Belaire for rehab . The facility is very clean and the new lighting is bright and looks great !

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Belair Nursing and Rehab center. From the admissions department to Nursing and rehab . Everyone has been caring, patient ,attentive and friendly. I cannot thank the staff enough for the amazing care of my father. I would give more stars if allowed on this review.. I cannot name everyone personally for all the wonderful care but we appreciate everyone there. We would very highly recommend Belair to everyone.

An absolute amazing experience...the management and staff are all capable and treat the patients as family members. Both my parents have spent time there and were treated with nothing but respect and love and attention. My Dad spent the last few weeks of his life there and the staff kept my brother and I up-to-date about his every move. I thank the staff and pray they continue the blessed work they do on a daily basis.

The best nursing and rehab center

I had a great experience during my stay at Belair. Everyone on the medical staff from the PA's to the RN's were attentive and professional (Pat, Victor, Renee, Russell and more). I was visited by a PA daily; keeping up with my progress and concerns. The CNA's strive to make patients as comfortable as possible. The PT and OT team (Cindy, Danielle, Dina), worked on my challenges and made it enjoyable to be in the gym. I will always recommend Belair to anyone needing care for themselves or their loved ones.

Belair presents and “rates” as one of the better sub acute rehab centers in the area & that in itself is just very very sad. It does overall appear to be a pleasant well run facility. Looks are VERY deceiving. The “medical staff” leaves a lot to be desired! My mother had fallen & broke her hip in December. She had a hip replacement & needed to go short term to a sub acute facility for physical therapy rehab after being discharged from the hospital. The rehab department at Belair was amazing! The physical & occupational therapists were the ONLY good things about her stay! The CNA’s overall are not very nice! There are definitely a very few that are kind & compassionate, (I have complemented them) but overall they are not nice. They don’t answer the call bells in a timely manner & they berate the residents that “complain”! My mother left her cell phone open one night & I could not even believe the things that the aides were saying to her because she called me to tell me she had been waiting for over an hour to use the bathroom! The food is absolutely horrible!! My mother, who is a retired dietician & who never complains, had nothing good to say about the food! My mother had 2 syncope episodes while at Belair, (she had a history of heart failure & A-Fib) the first time thankfully I was there with my daughters! After she was unresponsive for 1-2mins & I was asking them to call 911 or telling them that I would, the nursing supervisor then called someone (presumably the ADON, or DON) while I was at the nursing station with my unresponsive mom & my two teenage daughters to tell them “the daughter is demanding me to call 911” She ended up in NUMC for 4 days! Unfortunately was then transferred back to Belair. My mother then had a second syncope episode at Belair & the NP decided she didn’t need to go to the hospital! I unfortunately was unable to go to Belair when this happened but did go to see my mother approximately 4 hours later. When I arrived I could not even believe how she looked & that the “medical staff” didn’t think she needed to go to the hospital! After only seeing my mother for 5mins I demanded that the nursing supervisor send her to the hospital! Of course she had to contact her supervisor who had to contact their supervisor & after going through the red tape with the facility she was finally sent via ambulance to Winthrop! She was in Winthrop for 7 days!!! Seven days yet the “medical staff” at Belair thought she was just fine & she didn’t need to go to the hospital after another syncope episode!! She was finally discharged HOME because certainly she was never going back to Belair! If you are looking for a sub acute or long term facility for your loved one just know YOU need to be there as much as possible & even the places that have 5star ratings are not all that they claim!

As the passing of my mother at 113 is quickly approaching a year’s mark, I am sorely remiss in not sending this very strong THANK YOU TO THE ENTIRE STAFF. I appreciate all of you who were so involved in my mother’s well being for the three years that she spent there. All that good care must have worked because 113 is a formidable age that not too many people achieve.
