Ever since my dad moved into Artis, I’ve seen such a big difference in him. One of the most amazing things has been his activity. He’s actually walking more and even standing up straighter. It’s been really incredible to see. I honestly think the whole environment plays a role in that. There’s just something about the way everything is set up and how the team supports him day-to-day. I also have to give a huge shoutout to the care team they’re so awesome. So kind, so attentive, and you can tell they really care. And every time I come to visit, everyone is just so friendly and welcoming. It…

Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge has been nothing short of a blessing for my Dad and for our family. From the moment he moved in, it was clear that this community is built on compassion, respect, and genuine human connection. The staff treats him with such kindness and dignity that I never have to worry about whether he’s being cared for — I know he is. They take the time to understand who he is as a person, not just a resident, and that makes all the difference in the world. The environment is warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed to help residents feel safe, engaged, and at home. My Dad has truly thrived there, and seeing him comfortable, active, and smiling again has meant the world to me. I have not met a staff member who is not smiling and happy to be working there. This definitely carries over to the residents and how they feel. When you first walk in you are greeted by the nicest people at the front desk. From there you enter the residents world, and it truly is their world. My Dad would not be as active if he were still at home. The things I have seen him do while at Artis is beyond belief. I have never seen him do a puzzle, paint pictures, participate in group yoga, this is just not something he would be doing. But he has integrated so well that this is his new life now and I really can't be happier. For all these activities I have to give a very special shout‑out to Donna, the Activity Director, who is, in my opinion, the absolute best. Her energy, creativity, and dedication are unmatched. There is always something going on — crafts, music, games, themed events, you name it — and she makes sure every resident feels included and valued. My Dad lights up when he talks about the activities, and that joy is a direct reflection of the effort Donna puts in every single day. She is a true gem and an irreplaceable part of what makes Artis so exceptional. If you’re looking for a place where your loved one will be treated with genuine care, kept engaged, and surrounded by people who truly love what they do, Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge is that place. They have exceeded every expectation, and I am deeply grateful for the way they’ve cared for my Dad.

Update: still little communication and response from management. Residents still freely go in and out of my mother’s. Room and steal or wake her at 1am and get into bed with her. Ve repeatedly asked them to lock her door. No response! Poor management and training of care staff. Get a camera for your family members room. My mother has been there about 9 months. She has mild dementia and still enjoys activities, socializing and learning. Overall, this is a good move for her. Her room is small but she has a private bath and comfortable bed. The room is always clean, occasionally messy when laundry gets dumped or stacks up. For the most part the whole place is clean and smells normal (I’ve visited other assisted living that are horrible).; Pros: Donna the activity director is a gem. The activities offer mental stimulation, engage everyone, provide socialization and never just routine. Orlando is amazing and always helpful. Cam and Annette are friendly and welcoming even when I fly in late for a visit as they are leaving. Jorge makes great food (but sometimes aides dish out too much for my petite mom-I guess a good problem but I think they are working on it). Nurses helpful and friendly. Cleaning staff amazing. Rita in life strategy very friendly and helpful. Cons: Management. No one returns call or emails when issues arise. No one ever even acknowledges receiving an email. I have a camera in my mom’s room and there are residents that constantly throughout the night are walking in, turning lights on -waking her up-all night long. I have repeatedly asked them to lock her door when she goes to bed. Still after 9 months no action, no acknowledgement of this and other simple requests. My mother has complained about lack of privacy and I keep trying to them to let her lock the door. My mother was also displaying pneumonia symptoms but nurses kept calling and saying she is fine no change. Very frustrating as I can hear it in her extremely hoarse voice and her coughing. I asked management and again no response no acknowledgement of my email. There is No ED there. Corporate refuses to respond to emails. Very frustrating especially when I am across the country and only able to visit every 6-10 weeks. I need communication. I can see what is happening - camera in her room.

My mother started at Artis at the end of December '25. Everyone from Rita in admissions and Charlene the Executive Director made the transition from the nursing home to the facility smooth and problem free. All of the employees at Artis go above and beyond to keep the residents happy. Kam the receptionist is always pleasant when you come in. Donna in Life Enrichment always makes sure that my mother is able to attend activities that are suited for her. Julie and her two assistants make physical therapy a part of her day. Ariel and Jorge with kitchen services make sure that my mother's special diet is adhered to. The whole staff is geared to making her stay as pleasant as possible. My mother being at Artis has provided a sense of comfort as we know that she is being cared for in a way that is no longer possible for us any longer. The facility is always clean, bright and happy. The parking is also good. I recommend Artis Chestnut Ridge to anyone whose loved one has memory issues. Bruce Rivers The longer my mother, Catherine Jones, is at Artis the more I appreciate the people who work here. I would like to acknowledge Karen, Director Business Services, Eliza, Life Enrichment Assistant, Care Partners Rose, Charles Pierre, Lupe, Krystina & Sue of Occupational Therapy, Nurses Sophie, Raji, Yves, Veronica Director Environmental Housekeeping, Waylande, PCA, Bya Bah LPN, Arias & Joseph, Cooks, Tania & Rosa, hairdressers. There are more people who I might not have gotten to but rest assured everyone at Artis only have one thing in mind, the care & comfort of the residents. I am so glad that we have found Artis. We had the option to move our mom to the memory care wing of her existing facility, but we chose Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge instead—and we couldn’t be more pleased with our decision. From the moment we walked in for a tour, the difference was immediately clear: the warm front desk staff and welcoming atmosphere set it apart. The care partners have taken the time to understand her unique challenges (which can be difficult in certain situations) and ensure she’s always out in the community, dressed in clean clothes, and supported as issues arise. Donna Ahearn, the Director of Life Enrichment, has worked tirelessly to offer engaging activities that our mom truly enjoys, even as her Alzheimer’s progresses—live music, dance performances, pet therapy, and more. You will often see many of the staff enjoying the festivities with the residents that are going on in the Community Room at Artis. We were especially thrilled to find 24/7 nursing onsite and to be able to continue with nearly all of her existing physicians and psychiatric support. Anyone who has a loved one in a care facility knows how many challenges can come up, but Artis focuses exclusively on memory care and upholds an exceptional standard that has made us extremely happy with the care my mom receives. We are very grateful for our choice and highly recommend Artis of Chestnut Ridge.

We can’t say enough about Activity Director Donna Ahearn - she is the most amazing, creative , exceptional activity director in keeping the residents at Artis engaged, active & happy. My sister Rochelle is always smiling! She plans entertainment - opera singer, Elvis impersonator, Jewish singers, guitar players, cute little Irish dancers , & so much more. She plans ahead with dogs visits, piglets for therapy and soon a mini horse. For holidays, she makes sure Artis is always decorated with beautiful banners and decorations, always has arts & crafts time such as decorated gingerbread houses, pumpkins, painting, colors , puzzles & more. Donna hangs up their photos all around so the residents feel recognized. My sister, and those that are able, go on outings and excursions! They go to the zoo, a pumpkin farm and sometimes out for ice cream/milkshakes, which is probably moms favorite! Donna is fun and brings life to Artis and wonderful at keeping them active and engaged. She is a gem. Miriam Maggio (Rochelle P. s sister), and daughters.

My mom has been living at Artis at Chestnut Ridge since November 2025, and our family couldn’t be happier with the care she receives there. When my brother and I were first touring potential memory care facilities, we almost didn’t visit Chestnut Ridge because it was a farther drive from us than we’d originally hoped for. But we are so glad that we decided to visit anyway, because from the moment we stepped foot in the community we were struck by its unusually warm, cheerful, positive, and welcoming atmosphere. We quickly became convinced that the longer drive was worth it for the quality of life that Mom would enjoy here, and for the peace of mind we would get from knowing that she’d be surrounded by such a caring staff. Chestnut Ridge is excellent across the board (with respect to safety, maintenance, beautiful building and grounds, food quality, etc.). But what truly sets it apart is its staff. It is clear that for the people who work there, memory care is a calling, not just a job. From the front desk and front office staff, to the nurses and care partners, to the maintenance and dining staff, everyone brings a level of joy, dedication, and respect that is immediately noticeable. The staff works hard to get to know each resident well, seeing and caring for each person as an individual with a rich, unique life history deserving of interest and respect. One of the greatest treasures of Artis at Chestnut Ridge is its amazing activities program, led by Donna Ahearn. Donna has a remarkable gift for drawing residents in, getting them engaged, and making them smile. She plans a continually varied, fun, and stimulating set of activities for the residents, and you can see her always working to make sure no resident gets left out. In the short time our mom has been at Chestnut Ridge, she has enjoyed outings for coffee and donuts, bowling, and a visit to a local museum. There are also all kinds of special activities onsite to which family are invited -- luncheons, visits by musicians and dance troupes, holiday-related celebrations, etc. -- and it is such a joy to attend these and mix with the other families and residents. Above all, Donna and her staff manage to keep everyone laughing and taking joy in simple things. They also make sure to offer a variety of activities on any given day so that residents can find an activity that’s a good match for their personality and situation. Our family feels incredibly fortunate to have found Artis at Chestnut Ridge. We recommend it without hesitation to anyone seeking a caring, respectful, safe, and positive environment for their loved one with dementia.

It’s a fabulous and beautiful place.
